Did Ya Know ….
Dogs like Reggae? According to researchers at the University of Glasgow, reggae was favored over soft rock, Motown, pop, and classical. Previous studies have shown that classical music is calming, but that dogs adapt to it. Just a lil FYI … Old Mill puppies are introduced to Bruce Springsteen and Zac Brown as soon as they can hear. Now I know to add some reggae to the playlist.
Vinegar’s Magical Powers
Clean dog’s ears with a solution of 2 parts white vinegar and one part alcohol. The vinegar helps keep a healthy pH balance and the alcohol helps dry the ear. I switch the alcohol for witch hazel in a sore ear, it will sting less.
Clean pet urine from carpet with straight vinegar. Sprinkle the vinegar spot with some baking soda, allow to dry for a day or two, and vacuum. The vinegar neutralizes the ammonia smell in the dog urine.
Clean pet water dish with a little straight vinegar to remove the white mineral build-up.
Clean dog bed covers and blankets using a 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and fill the softener dispenser with 1/2 cup vinegar … your nose will thank you.
We use a cleaning solution of vinegar and water on our hard wood floors. It keeps the floors clean and is safe for the dogs.
Doodle Dining Etiquette
We’re slowly approaching outdoor dining season, spring is taking it’s good sweet time. Even if you dined out with your doodle last year, a brief refresher may be in order before you venture out.
Training and refresher sessions begin at home
Your doodle needs to be proficient at the sit/down/stay commands before you attempt a meal in public. Some doodle owners practice with their dogs on a daily basis, or at least frequently enough to not need a brief tune-up. For those perfect pet owners, grab your gear and you’re good to go. For those like me that don’t always practice what they don’t require a brief polish of the essentials is needed. After they’re accomplished at home, the first trip out for a puppy should be a brief stop rather than a leisurely dinner.
- Feed and water your doodle before going to a restaurant.
- Bring a water bowl, poop bags, and a toy/chew to entertain.
- Use a standard leash, not retractable so your doodle stays with you.
- Do not leave your dog alone. Remember they’re in a strange place and in your absence they could escape and get hurt. Additionally, they are adorable, very friendly, and could be taken.
