Our routine to keep the puppy spaces clean and helthy
Outside
- Daily removal of waste
- Specific metal scraper for each puppy run to avoid cross contamination
- Boots are only used for cleaning, They’re disinfected after each use.
- Entire area sprayed with Wysiwash (fencing, walls, concrete, gravel in front of runs)
- Waste hauled away … separate shoes used
Inside
- Metal walls and heavy rubber mats disinfected with bleach between litters and rotated so left empty for 3-6 months between litters
- Moms stay in their (inside/outside) space until the puppies are weaned.
- Sprayed with Kennelsol daily when we have a litter.
- New brooms, squeegee, dustpan, and dish washing brush labeled and discarded after each litter.
- Shoes kept in disinfectant above run … NEVER wear anything else when in with puppies, They never touch the ground outside their run.
- Stainless steel food dishes only used by that litter, kept above their space, disinfected for 10 minutes with Kennelsol before feeding and with bleach between litters.
- Spray the common walkway with disinfectant as I back out of the kennel daily.
- Rotate disinfectant ,, Kennelsol, Wysiwash, A specific form of Hydrogen Peroxide (vet recommended), and bleach.
- Any time we’ve had a sick puppy the mat flooring is discarded and not used again,
Puppies
- Fresh rubber gloves with each litter .. I take care of everything one litter needs before changing gloves and moving on to the next litter.
- Fresh water twice a day
- An empty run between litters
- All bedding (used for newborns) is washed with bleach and changed daily
Vaccinations
- moms are vaccinated every January
- Puppies typically receive NeoPar at 5 weeks and 5-way at 7 weeks
- Sometimes only receive 5 way at 6 weeks
Other
Fortiflora at least weekly to promote healthy gut
I don’t know how I could have missed something. I’ve had two vets (other than my own) that have mentioned wildlife (coyotes, raccoons, deer, and birds specifically) that can all be carriers, Basically, I need a bubble.
